Post modding a barricade. PICTURE HEAVY
Post date: Sun Oct 09, 2011 8:54 am
So i have been looking around and found nothing on barricades. So here is my mod.
Materials-
Voltage mod:

soldering iron
9 volt connector(found at radio shack sold in packs of 5)
standard 9 volt battery
dremal
all mods:
screwdriver
barricade
soldering iron
9 volt connector
standard 9 volt battery
dremal

step 1.UNSCREWING So open up all the screws. There are practically no hidden screws in this blaster.

step 2.BARREL REMOVAL Now once you are inside this beast go right by the flywheels and unscrew the four screws in the fake orange barrel. Now lift it up and slowly rip out the barrel. Screw the screw back up and it looks cooler, it can be holstered easier and it increases range.

step 3.VOLTAGE MOD  Okay, correct me if i am wrong but, most of you have probably been looking on Youtube for this mod and guess what it is not their. So let me teach you. So first thing you do is you is unscrew both shells. Once you have done that open up the battery compartment. Take out the old AA batteries you don't need them. Now cut the little tabs to keep the batteries in place, and you need to cut down the springs just a smidge.

Now on the lid you need to dremal all the crackes on it just dremal untill it is flat it should look like this.(bad picture).

Now like you have seen in these pictures,

You have to also cut away the walls. There are two walls if you want the battery to be in up and downwards.(sorry I don't know horizontal or vertical otherwise I would have said one of the two). Now with the sanding bit sand those two areas down on the outside. On the inside take your cutting bit and cut a little bit away in there.
Image
Minus the 9-volt connector it should look slightly like this.

Now onto the 9 volt connector. You will need a soldering iron for this folks. WARNING: don't die. obviously black is negative, red is positive. So I wont wast y time and yours with my nonsence here is the picture.

Image

Now stick some foam in there.
Image
There was more.

And presto a new modified barricade.

Pics are huge, try resizing. Other than that... good job.

You can use this to resize them.

But other than the pictures, great mod.

This forum software automatically resizes pictures, if you would just wait for the page to load completely.

Looks nice, except 9v is for whimps. 18v all the way. Or put them in parallel to get half the windup time. Check here.

Actually, 18V isn't much better. Reading that post, it seems he couldn't get more than a few more feet out of the blaster at the cost of accuracy.

Once the pics are resized I think Id have a better opinion of the mod.
It looks like you did a good job tho, I really have to get back and take another crack at 9V rewiring. by just hard wiring the + and - wires to the blaster vs trying to hook them up the the tray, like Ive always tried to do. I think that's what you did...but IDK lol
resize the pics and ill see :P

If you just connect the + to the - it will be upgraded to 18V, but it wont fit in the try, and will not look very clean. The range increase wont also be that significant...so yea. I agree with you Andtheherois

I know the pictures are big, I will try to fix them. Also on my computer once the page loads all the way, it automatically resizes the pictures to fit on my screen. But it might just be because I have a huge laptop.

Edit~ Yes i fully agree with Bobololo. When I did it that is exactly what I did I just thought everybody would do it so I did not include it.
Also I will not be resizing the pictures I know now that it automatically resizes for other people too.

Lastly in a few days or when I get around to it I will be adding the clip conversion to the write-up.

When doing voltage upgrades to the barricade, I highly recommend taking out the thermoresistor (that little yellow tab behind the battery tray). It keeps the motors from being shut down. That way you can add more voltage and not worry about it stopping in the middle of your game... that being said, you could destroy the motors, but I haven't had that happen yet after extended use.

^This, to all of you complaining about pic size. On my large iMac screen with max window size, the auto-resized pics look GREAT, very good quality.

As to the mod, nice, good to have a well-pictured write-up for this for those who are new to voltage and wiring mods.

And on mine (Win7 x64 on Firefox 7.01) you can click on the pic and it will open in a separate window at full rez.

Back to the mod - great job. If I ever come across one, I'll be sure to do this to it!
